Growing up in my family, there were always one "soap" in stock. Dove Beauty Bars. I remember the feeling of unwrapping a fresh bar an that wonderfully visceral feel of that proprietary shape.. As I delved into the art of soap making, it totally shocked me to learn that the soap of my youth was not in fact, true "soap"!
For something to officially be recognized as soap, it has to go through the Saponification process, where fats are physically altered by Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide (both known as Lye). Dove is called a Beauty Bar because it is not soap! Yeah, I know, right? Look it up, if you don't believe me.
